With reference to Mr. Severn's despatch

No.157 of the 12th of April reporting the retirement on pension of Mr. W. T. Edvarda, Drainage Surveyor, Public Works Department, I have the honour to state that the Director of Public Works has recommended that the post of Drainage Surveyor in the Building Office should be abolished

and that instead an officer with business office training

should be appointed to deal with the growing volume of

correspondence which passes through the Building Ordinance

office, the technical duties formerly allotted to Mr.

Edwards being distributed among the overseers of the Department.

2. A suitable applicant for this post of

office assistant was found in the person of Mr. John Wattie

who has been provisionally appointed under the terms of the
